The Microlife BodyGem and MedGem indirect calorimeters measure Resting Metabolic Rate, to help your clients reach their New Year’s resolutions.
What is Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). Metabolism, quite simply, is the conversion of food to energy.
Metabolic rate is a measure of how much food, or fat, is converted to energy in a day.
Resting metabolic rate (RMR) is the measurement of how much food, or energy, is required to maintain basic body functions such as heartbeat, breathing, and maintenance of body heat while you are in a state of rest.
That energy is expressed in calories per day. So an RMR test shows how many calories you burn at rest, doing nothing more than sitting in a chair.
Instead of estimating RMR with the Harris-Benedict or Katch-McArdle formula, the BodyGem and MedGem scientifically measure a clients Metabolic Fingerprint, that is unique to them.
Estimation formulas cannot factor in thyroid issues, the effects of medications, etc.
For the best care, the American Dietetics Association recommends using indirect calorimetry to measure RMR for the most accurate assessment of nutritional needs.
The BodyGem and MedGem have the same functionality, accuracy and reliability. The difference is that the MedGem has gone through the FDA-approval process, to allow licensed clinicians to make insurance claims on their measurements.
These indirect calorimeters measure your clients Resting Metabolic Rate in 5-10 minutes, to provide them with a scientifically based Daily Calorie Budget, to help them reach their weight goals.
